FYI, I purchased this mount on June 26th and Celestron dropped the price $200 on June 30th. That is my luck... fortunately they were kind enough to credit me back $200.
Now that I have a better idea of the size of the DX, your 14" is a monster. That 1400 may be my next upgrade. How does it perform on the DX? Is the DX enough for imaging with that size scope?

My killer GnG mount.. Vixen Porta II w/ Manny's Panhandle and focus knobs. Absolutely *amazing* for starhopping! Vixen should contract him for his panhandle and put it on all of their Porta II's.

My own design for my dob base. It's for my recently gotten almost-new Z12. It's on a dedicated Atomic EQ Platform (no ground board). I lowered the scope, cut some weight, and prettied it up.

Funny how the mounts can cost hundreds and more likely thousands more than the scopes themselves.

Just thought I'd share a few picks of heavy duty alt-az pipe mount I built for my newt on top of a pre-existing concrete pier. I had a different version which used a set of rings I have, but I like this setup better. The pipe handles under the scope make for pretty fine control (& it feels kind like your "driving" a periscope!).

A polyurethane RenShape 5169 mount that weighs about 1/2 that of aluminum. Very rigid polyurethane used in die making. Remnants are sometimes available.
You can stop making them out of aluminum. Smooth as silk just like a real one. This one I made is 190mm and a homebuilt 5 inch f/8 on it.
P.S. I do not and will not sell these but they are pretty simple to make. This material cuts like hardwood.
They can be made with a band saw, drill press and sand paper. A lathe would make it even easier.
Just need the right plastic and HeliCoil threaded inserts. Google for a source.
I have never personally seen an original aluminum dm only pictures...just sayin'

Very nice. I does however look like a rip off of the very patented DM DiscMount designed by Tom Peters. My guess is they are not sold in the US?

These are not sold anywhere. Unless dm decides to make them.
If this is still America I believe I can MAKE most anything I want for my personal use But not more than ONE of a kind and I will NEVER make one to sell to anyone on the Planet. I've made six different sizes. All with various differences of construction.
I wanted one for myself OK. But I couldn't stop makin' em' until I was satisfied with the movement and how to hold pressure. I believe my method is much simplier than dm.
In that respect I believe my mount is a nice improvement over the original dm. And they could be sold at a premium with no increase in manufacturing cost. I incourage dm to look into making a new line of light weight hybrid models based on my changes in their design. They are welcome to these ideas. Everybody wins. Now dm can rip ME off.
I found a european blogger that wanted a larger dm than the ones that are currently offered so I made the 12 inch model just for fun. A huge tripod is required for that one. Again, not for sale.
I believe there is a place for light weight dm models of strong SpaceAge plastics. And different sizes and colors. But I seriously doubt they will be produced. Here is a picture of my complete collection from 80mm thru 304mm. When I croak dm mount can have them all just for asking and paying the freight.
This HOBBY is still called Amateur Telescope Making I trust.
Just havin' fun!!!

Alright, that's enough!
I barely have time to complete my copy of some great idea that someone posted here and then BAM....here comes the next one.
A guy needs sleep and this site is no help.
I'm sticking to the "post a picture of your pet" threads from here on out.

As it's homemade and not purchasable, I guess there is not issue. Given the production quality I assumed it wasn't. My mistake.
And yes it's still America, you know, free speech and all, which I was exercising.
