Skywatcher EQ 5 Newt

I saw a review of a Skywatcher 10" Newtonian on an EQ-5 mount. The mount looks kind of like an Orion Skyview Pro mount, but am not sure. What is the Orion equivalent of the EQ-5? I ask since I am somewhat familiar with the Orion mounts. Is this scope undermounted on the EQ-5? Would an Orion Sirius class mount be better? Looks like an attractive package otherwise.

I always thought the EQ-5 was Orion's Sirius Mount.
For a 10" Newtonian you really want the Orion Atlas (or something similar) at least. A 10" newtonian really pushed the Atlas already anyway, anything smaller would be a bit scary.

i think this is correct too. The skyview pro i think is a CG4 type.
Skywatcher sells the 10" on the eq6 i have never seen it on the eq5 that does not make any sence to me, i also know SW sells the 8" on the eq5 which is not perfect but ok the 10" on the eq5 is wayy to small for that ota.Unless the dealer had the ota & mount left & just put those 2 together for a cheaper price.

Orion's Sirius mount is the same as the EQ5. I'm definitely going to spring for one as soon as I can get the money, which would probably be about 5 years from now!
Unemployment sucks when you got the bug.

It doesn't look like the Sirius, although it may be mechanically. Here is the link, looks like they use the EQ-5 for both the 8" and 10". (If the link is a no-no then please just edit that out but please keep the post.)

It uses the same hand controller as the Orion scopes do.

ok thats the SW eq5 pro but its still too small.if you like that scope order it with the eq6.

This mount is definitely *not* the same as the Orion Sirius - that mount is badged as the HEQ5 Pro by Skywatcher. The EQ5 Pro looks more like a retooled Orion AstroView or Orion SkyView Pro.
I'm in complete agreement that this newt belongs on a much heavier mount.

That's what it looked like to me too, I think even a Sirius mount wouldn't be enough for a 10" Newtonian, even if you were only doing visual for it. But if they're selling it I guess the EQ5/Skyview Pro type mount must at least be able to move the beast around the sky. (I know that Orion sells a package with an 8" Newtonian on the SVP.)
Thanks to everyone for their responses, I am curious about this package and so I'll pop over the reflectors forum and ask is anyone has one. It doesn't look stable enough but it must be...

ok the Orion Astro view is not a eq5 either that an EQ3 mount.
The sirus mount looks like the old SW HEQ5.
The Skyview pro is SW EQ5 mount.

Joe, that's what it looks like to me too. I have a Sirius and didn't think it could handle a 10" newt, but SW has a package which uses a mount a step below the Sirius swinging that OTA around. It just surprised me.

I think the HEQ5-Pro is of heavier duty. It is not the same as the EQ5P. I have the HEQ5-Pro. I have an 8" SCT, Orion ST-80, 8 X 50 finder scope, plus a DMK Camera and Orion StarShoot all totalling the threshold weight (for astrophotography) of 23 lbs. The HEQ5-Pro (SkyWatcher/Sirius)can handle up to 30 lbs load but that would only be good for visual and very short duration photos.
