The gears always should climb a bit. If you are balanced perfectly, then the backlash will allow the mount to bounce back and forth and you will have long stars. I have my 90mm guide scope on top of my 10 inch SN reflector. I had to add a custom weight to the end of the shaft, but you won't have that issue with a 130mm scope. I always balance east heavy and get nice round stars at 6 minutes on my LXD75. Mine carries an LXD75 SN6 with a 90mm MCT as a guide scope. I usually balance mine evenly on both axis, then shift a small counter weight to make it just a tad east-heavy so it climbs against the load. Also, while guiding I use either north-only or south-only on the dec. My standard imaging kit...
