Atlas Tripod Issue: Repair Suggestions?

Hi. Last Saturday I noticed that one of the black, pointy aluminum feet on my Atlas tripod was loose. I could rotate it on the stainless steel tripod leg. I'm assuming these fittings are glued in place. What sort of adhesive ought I to use to re-secure it? (Bonding cast aluminum to stainless steel.)

I'd use contact cement because if I ever needed to remove the foot to service the leg it could be done. JB weld will not allow you to do that. Once it's on, it's on for good!

Actually, JB Welded pieces can be removed if needed. I have had to do it several times over the years. Of course it does depend on the media being joined together. In this case both are metal...this removal can be done by heating both pieces with a propane torch. It depends on how much JB was used too, but generaly just 250 to 350 degrees will soften the JB product. It will become soft and both pieces will come apart.
Of course you will need to wear thick leather gloves so as not to burn yourself and \ or a clamping devise to hold each piece.

There are no screws. All the Celestron/Synta leg tips are glued on and will fall off eventually. I used Superglue, but JB is prob'ly better.

I haven't had good luck with Superglue or JB. Better luck with epoxy. Just about my favorite adhesive for non-woodworking use is Goop. It will bond most anything to anything. Parts can be separated by wicking some acetone on the joint-the Goop will temporarily soften. Do NOT use Goop on telescope mirrors.
