Waiting for the big active region to come around the limb, but decided to have a peek anyway as the SOHO MDI Continuum image hasn't been updated since 01:41, 6 May 09 UT. Celestron X-Cel 8mm ep, 4.5" f8 reflector, Baader AstroSolar Safety Film full-aperture filter.
Using 112x, and could see granulation clearly in moments of good seeing. Only thing showing around the right place on the limb is a long strip of plage, just come into view. Sketch below, much 'magnified' - hope this isn't it!!!
Cheers -

Just for a note of nomenclature, what is seen in white light filters near the limb is faculae. Plage is an H-alpha feature which may be somewhat related to faculae, but the two are not quite the same thing, as they often do not occupy exactly the same locations. Clear skies to you.

Thanks David, appreciated! Was not aware of that!

I'm sure I read somewhere that previous historical periods of very low solar activity were broken up by the appearance of few but very large sunspots. Maybe the same could be happening now.
An extended period of low activity wouldn't seem so bad if every couple of months we got a lonely monster spot to look at.
