CGE Pro recall new

It apears that Celestron is recalling the CGE Pro's. Does anyone know what's the reason for the recall?

I saw a post on Astronomy.com forums indicating that it is due to the first run of mounts being assembled with the wrong type/strength of locktite. That's totally unconfirmed however. I don't even know if it would make sense.

That is a shame, but I have never been one to want to buy something when it is first released. Hopefully they will fix whatever it is in a short time.

The wrong type of Locktite? I think that's stretching things a bit.

Hi Alph, do you have a link or can you point us to a source? I'm sure folks would like to know...

Charlie

Here's the Astronomy.com thread. Looking to see if I can find an official statement from Celestron... I think I'll also ask Mike to see what he knows about it.

EDIT: Posted a PM to Mike and an email to Celestron.

I use Loctite a lot on various jerryrigged projects. Not so much for locking down bolts but to maintain a precise position of the nut on the bolt or threaded rod. Situations where a lock washer will not work. The only choices are Loctite or the cap nuts with nylon insert. Loctite is often best when the adjustment nut/shaft does not tolerate the force needed to run a nylon insert nut down the shaft to proper position. Speculation only but it likely has something to do with precise adjustment of shaft end play. A good area to use the right Loctite. Commendable of Celestron recalling these to make sure.

The "recall" on the Pro mount is due to a locktite issue. The wrong spec locktite was used. They don't think it will cause an issue, but they want to make it right. That is the whole reason for the "recall".
