thanks jeff! yeah, all with a jigsaw, and in the kitchen of my 1 bedroom apartment... i actually fried one jigsaw from overheating it (it was smoking like a chimney!). the new one i bought cuts much straighter lines. i'm going to take ron's advice and go back over the less straight areas with a file. the cuts i made with the new saw are straight, but the old black & decker jigsaw wasn't as stellar...

i think it looks pretty darn good

good job!

hopefully one day i will be able to make cool things for my dob as well.

i really wish some cool physicist would make the plans for a cheap anti-gravitic device available to us amateur astronomers so we can more easily move our scopes around

gr8 job again,
drolma

The woodtape work pretty good. I used it on a birch polywood Dob base I built last year.

Thanks Erik. The birch base is a bit lighter than the stock bases. For scopes, two 10" Dobs (Antares and Orion), AT1010 and Ganymede G185.

So Craig, how does the Dob sled attach to the dog's harness?

Erik, nice job. But those Meade guys are great. Not only do they give you something to do when the sky is clear, they give you something to do when it is cloudy.

Maybe you should try some faux wood wallpaper to cover the tube to match the base. The base looks so nice, it makes the tube look it was hand made.

Not very well, even with a cookie. All it takes is one squirrel to create a disaster.

ha! i never thought of it like that, i'll have to call meade and thank them! ...the wallpaper idea sounds interesting, but i want to do something to the tube that'll lower the weight. so i'm thinking that converting it to a truss is the best option at this point...
