Sphinx on GC-5 tripod?
      #3109300 - 05/16/09 07:29 PM

Has anyone tried mounting a Sphinx on the CG-5 tripod? I picked up a used CG-5 the other day and had a chance to try it out last night. While the mount itself is much lighter than the Sphinx, the tripod is very hefty and much more solid compared to the HAL-110. I noticed that there was almost no vibration through the eyepiece when I used the focuser or tapped a tripod leg.

While the Sphinx base is a smaller diameter than the CG-5 base, the center post is threaded the same on both tripods so I can attach the Sphinx to the CG-5 tripod without and problem. I'm anticipating that it will make the Sphinx much steadier. Just wondering if anybody else out there has tried this . . .

Biggest wonder, is if you'll be able to catch the azimuth pin on the tripod for alignments..

I'm testing a Sphinx clone on a CG-5 tripod. It does work, but misses the pin totally..

I didn't seem to have any trouble but I'll check that out further.
