For $500 - what equatorial moutn with a clockdrive will securley hold a 40 pound load? Doesnt need computer anything - just an equatorial mount with drive and pedestal or tripod.

Has to be able to hold 40 pounds.

Im not interested in $2000 mounts . Totally out of the question. Ofcourse Ill considered decent used equipment.

Pete

While you're looking for your $500 EQ mount, let me know if you happen to run into a red sports car for me. Must cost $3,000 or less, get up to 200 mph in 6 seconds or less and get 40 miles/gallon or better.

Unfortunately for Pete, Al will find his vehicle before Pete will find his mount.

The only one that can handle 40 lbs thats not expensive is EQ6 mount but not the newest one the older one & it going to be in the used market.

Even that it may be in the 600 to 700 range. It does have hand controller, drives but not goto & 2" steel legs.

If you can find the oringional black Skywatcher EQ6 you may find it in that price range if its a bit beat up but i think you will need go to 600 to 700 & they dont come by that often.

I would also reccommend the HEQ5 but that cant hold 40 lbs it rated for 30 the HEQ5, so it has to be the EQ6

Joe

Me? I want a pony!

As for the cheapest mount that will handle 40-pounds? The Atlas might, barely, but to really accomodate that payload, at least a CGE or a G11 is my recommendation. That means about 2000 used.

Mine's doing 40 pounds OK, but I only do visual work. Picture taking-wise, Rod is certainly correct.

I found it. Unfortunatley its as old and used as the equatorial mount I turned down. I think its an alfa spider.

I thought I made it clear I was accepting used. Now you have to go to california and pick it up.

Just to be clear the Atlas is the same as the Skywatcher EQ6 just so Pete knows.
