I bought a used Meade 883 tripod and its missing the azimuth adjustment pin which is close to the letter N on the top of the tripod leg. Can someone send me a photo of one so I can make one or tell me where I can get one?
Does your head have both fine azimuth adjustment knobs? If so, they go over that pin after you back them out about 1/2" each. The pin sticks up about 1" from the mounting base. It starts out as a 3/8" round pin with a slightly bigger base and is either press fit or threaded fit into the tripod base. They machine a flat surface on both sides where the fine azimuth threaded rods touch the pin. It should be easy to put a piece of threaded rod in the hole in the base and file a flat on each side so you can then do the fine azimuth adjustment (set the rod in the base with super glue to hold it). Finding one of those pins will be very hard, meade does not sell parts but would sell the base with the pin attached to you for about $100).
Thanks for the info. Sounds like it'll be easy to make. I called Meade but they just told me good luck. Doubt if I'll ever call them again. A $100 pin, what a bargain :-)
Here is a maybe. There is a CN member named William Vorce and he owns an eBay store that sells telescope parts real cheap. He is honest and his shipping costs are next to nothing. This item is not listed on his site but he owns a bunch of ETX parts scopes and tripods. I got an 883 azimuth threaded rod from him about a year ago and he had the 883 tripod base at that time. If he still has it ask him how much for the mounting base without the legs. I think you will be happy with his quote. He may have just the pin, also. Here is his email address: Scopehed@frontiernet.net He is really a nice Guy.
