Whether tis nobler of the mount to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous misalignments, or, by consulting charts, end them.

To point, to slew--no more--and by a slew to say we end the search, and the thousand natural tics that encoders are heir to.

And don't forget: for best results, insist upon no "shakes pier."

I starhop and never used GoTo and have done fine. In a really dark sky location, I can find objects without starhopping since they are readily visible in the viewfinder.

That limits you to an extremely small number of objects. Only a tiny fraction of all the objects that I view through my 12.5-inch Dob are directly visible through its 8x50 finderscope. And that includes plenty of showpiece objects. For instance, essentially all planetary nebulae.

First and foremost observing love: naked eye.
Second, binoculars.
Last but not least, telescopes.
And I sometimes dabble with cameras.
