how long does it take to update the Autostar 497?
      #3131085 - 05/27/09 08:56 PM

I'm trying to use autosuite and I thought I'd up date the autostar 497. It says 2006 when I turned it on. I went through the setup on the hand held and saw update. I did it and its been 10 min and it still says "downloading do not turn off" I have the serial port to USB adapter connected to the handheld and the other cable is hooked to the HBX on the LXD55. I've hooked it up like the Autosuite showed me.
So wondering how long to down load the update. I wish it had a %done bar to see what is actually happening. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Mark

It took. It now says 2007 4.3E. Thanks.
Any idea why the telescope icon button on the tool bar of Autostar Suite would be missing next to the "?" button.
I had it earlier in the evening. Now it's gone.
Thanks,
Mark

Yes-- 15 minutes or so-- let it RUN till it finishes. If you use the free trial version of the StarGPS software it will be faster-- the only think "broken" in the trial software is that about half way through the firmware update it slows down to the "normal" Meade update rate. But its still faster than the Meade software. An additional benefit of the StarGPS update software is that you automatically get Dick Seymours PATCH with a check list of features to "tick off" if you want to install them. Dick has included a short "help" text with each checkmark.

http://www.stargps.ca/downloads.htm setupSP.exe

All the firmware versions are listed but don't worry about that -- if you just let the software go on line and retrieve the update -- it will get the latest version.

DO NOT USE THIS IF YOU HAVE THE NEW Meade hand controller with version 59Ed !! Only use it for the 497 hand controller.
