A vintage (1950s/1960s) 60mm F/15 equatorial refractor with wooden storage chest on the Orange County, Calif. Craigslist (posted on May 26th for $50):

The telescope looks like a Royal Astro Optical Industries Co., Ltd. product, imported and restamped with ATCO or similar. Opinions on the particular brand name of this one? The viewfinder seems to be missing its eyepiece.

Hi Happy,
Today I looked at the 60mm Lafayette from NY Craigslist. The gentleman was a pleasure to meet; he'd simply bought at a garage sale for his kids, and never used (and he wasn't aware of how to truly use it). The diagonal's prism was cracked, and the mount was in bad shape (bent shafts, missing worm gear, bent leg spreader - basically useless). The OTA and finder was okay (objectives simply externally dusty, needing cleaning, and I'm ignoring the chipped/scratched paint). I think you would have been disappointed if you'd made a long trip to see it. Please forgive me - I bought it all for $35 (please don't laugh if I overpaid for what is basically just an OTA and finderscope, I'm new to this - I'm not a collector, but want to appreciate the older quality).
But now I have a problem (there always is) - this evening while disassembling the focuser to clean the grime and 'glubricant', I separated the focuser tube from the 'extra' sliding extension tube..they're a friction fit with fuzzy felt as the intermediate sliding material. Needless to say, it is now impossible to slide the tubes back together without the fuzzy felt getting jammed-up. I've worked on modern Synta focusers, but this fuzzy felt concept is alien to me. I know that I can buy new fuzzy felt if I need to (I think I need to now), but how does one reassemble without the felt getting all jammed-up? I hope that I'm not the only person who's had to tackle this (I'm guessing that such fuzzy felt can deteriorate over time and need replacement & reassembly)...I seek the sage advice of those who have conquered this dilemma.

Hi John,
I recently picked up a 60 X 910 labeled Peer Scope. It looks like this one. Has the declination worm gear running under and perpendicular to the optical tube instead of under/along the side and parallel to it. I think it may have been sold as a 7te by Tasco. The Mizar 60 X 1000 has a similar if not the same mount. There is a photo of the mount on the recent thread I started about meeting Actionhac/Robert along I-5 to pick-up the Mizar. Recently a 60 X 910 sold on the Goodwill auction site labeled Space Scope with this mount as well. That one's objective was labeled Danchyka. All three scopes go into the case tripod legs, mount, (sans counter weight and shaft), and optical tube all connected and kind of folded inside out. $50 hardly buys my week's supply of good chocolate... or good beer...this scope seems like a (healthy) deal.

If you're confused about something selling on eBay, it's best to contact the seller and ask for clarification.
I know that. I'm not interested in that scope, just pointing it out for someone who might be.

Good morning Happy,
Re my posting last night (well, at 2AM this morning), I had a revelation that worked-out beautifully this morning. I used a shoehorn concept with thin sheet acetate rolled like a mild cone shape to allow for sliding-in the inner tube. Worked like a charm! Similar idea as an automotive piston ring sleeve-type compressor. All is well. Back on track!
I truly hope that you're not annoyed with my purchase of the scope. As I'd indicated, the only worthwhile components are the OTA, finderscope, and the 12.5mm Huygens eyepiece. At a minimum, it'll make a nice big 60mm finder scope piggybacked on my Celestron CR150-HD 6" refractor...or it'll become a nice grab & go scope (once I find a suitable mount & tripod).

I am not upset in the least rather the opposite i am very happy for you, i hope you stay around the Classics forum. One thing i should tell you is that this thread is for posting the sales of Classic scopes and the moderators may chime in telling us to stay on the topic of scope listings. The moderators are very polite but they need to do their job as well. 
I would love to see a picture or two of the scope, even if it is a little tattered. After getting on to the main page of Classics forum just click on the tab that says "POST" and the rest is easy. Just be careful of your image size. Good to have you on board i hope to see your Classic Lafayette.
BTW be sure to post the new "shoe horn" method just incase someone else has a similar problem they can use your idea. Good thinking i have to keep that in the back of my mind next time i am having that problem myself. Sometimes the felt gets folded and even shredded after the years of use.

A small scope that gets used often is a better investment than a big scope that stays in the closet.
Unitrons, you spend more time looking at them than you do through them.

It's a filar eyepiece. It's used to measure linear distances in a microscope. I use one almost once a week to determine things like metallic plating thicknesses. I do metallography for a living. That's the art/science of cross sectioning objects. In my case, it's electronic components.
