Another posting where a photograph would sure help. The ad mentions that this is a Meade Research Series 8" F/6 equatorial reflector. The ad was posted on July 10th, 2009, and the link is:
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/spo/1263198281.html (I am not the seller of the telescope.)
If in fact a true Research Series scope from the late 1970s and early '80s, it should come with a massive 1.5-inch shaft mounting that is buffed and polished. It should also have a rotating ring system and a 2-inch #680 focuser by Meade. The tubes are also made out of fiberglass rather than fiberlite or spiral wound cardboard. These are fairly scarce--you usually see the more common #826 models advertised.
Has anyone requested more information on this scope? Is it in fact a classic Research Series Newtonian from Meade?

A classic Towa 80mm F/15 equatorial refractor telescope on the New Orleans Craigslist. You don't often see these listed with the optional (but Tasco brand) electric RA motor drive. The ad was posted on July 14th, 2009, and the link is:
http://neworleans.craigslist.org/pho/1269876643.html (I am not the seller of the telescope.)
These are known for their superb optical performance. They were also marketed by other telescope importers, but the ones with the original Towa #339 label (and from the 1970s) seem to be some of the best sold.

I was involved in building the prototypes for these at Meaded in 1978-79. I had also thought they used fiberglass tubes, but several CN members who own them say they're fiberlite.
The 8" RG was a fine scope.

A classic Tasco #10TE 3-inch F/16 (D=76.2mm F=1200mm) equatorial refractor from the 1960s or '70s is listed on the Orange County, California Craigslist. The ad was posted on July 13th, 2009, and the link is:
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/spo/1267421685.html
(I am not the seller of the telescope.)
Have any of our members inspected this particular telescope? Is it complete and what is the overall condition?
Comments?
I have inspected this scope over the phone with the seller and have already sent off a cashier's check for payment. As she removed the parts on her end, I did the same with a 10te I already have. Hers appeared to be complete, with the exception of the sun filter and perhaps the dust cap. The case is wood with compartments, no styrofoam. No dents but a few "tiny" scratches in the tube paint. She could see some dust, but no scratches or chips in the objective. I will have a pak and ship store prepare it, which will add substantially to the cost.
I even remembered to have her wiggle the tube back and forth while listening for any rattles. My other 10te arrived very well secured but with a tiny rattle. After unpacking the scope I discovered the rattle was coming from the objective. The retaining ring was very loose (I know they shouldn't be tight...pinched optics? but while in transit a good idea). The objective was very slightly clam shell chipped with loose glass flakes between the elements. Hoping to avoid that this time.

My 1981 Meade catalog states that all the Newtonians at that time were Fiberlite tubes. However my 8" f/6 with Meade optics and fittings (from 1980) is fiberglass.

An unusually complete Jason 60mm alt-azimuth refractor on the Tulsa, Oklahoma Craigslist. The photographs are most beautiful! The ad was posted on July 20th, 2009, and the link to the website is:

These have become somewhat collectable in recent years, but are not in the same league as Unitron or Royal Astro.

A brass Bardou (I think that the seller spelled this wrong in his ad) refractor telescope on the Santa Barbara, Calif. Craigslist. The ad was posted on July 17th, 2009, and the link is:
http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/clt/1275449068.html (I am not the seller of the antique telescope.)
Is this particular model a common one by that famous French company?

A classic 'orange' Celestron C-8 on the Inland Empire, California Craigslist. The ad was posted on July 14th, 2009, and the link to that website is:

This looks to be a basic scope; I do not see any oculars or tripod in the posting.

A 1960's Tasco 60mm alt-azimuth refractor telescope on the Los Angeles, California Craigslist. The ad was posted on July 19th, 2009, and the link is:
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/for/1278522543.html (I am not the seller of the telescope.)
This could be either a Tasco #9TE-5 Starbrite OR a #12TE-5 Solarama 2.4-inch refractor. (The #9TE-5 has a focal length of 700mm, whereas the #12TE-5 has a slightly longer one of 800mm. The latter also has a wooden storage chest.)
What is this particular Tasco scope from yesteryear?

A Parks 8-inch equatorially-mounted Newtonian reflector telescope on the Las Vegas, NV Craigslist. The ad was posted on June 28th, 2009, and the link is:
http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/for/1244069022.html (I am not the seller of the telescope.)
What is the year of manufacture of this Parks scope? My guess would be from the 1980s. The mounting looks remarkably similar to those used on Cave Astrola reflectors. The drive unit is unusually large.

An advertisement for a 1970's "huge" Meade reflector telescope on the Buffalo, NY Craigslist. The ad was posted on July 20th, 2009, and the link to the website is:
http://buffalo.craigslist.org/spo/1279516003.html (I am not the seller of the telescope.)
From the sketchy description I would make a guess that this is Meade's venerable #826 8-inch F/6 model, but the length of the tube in the ad may indicate otherwise. Has anyone inspected this one yet? What is it?

You don't see these older 1980's 'blue' Coulter 17.5-inch F/4.5 Odyssey II Dobsonians on Craigslist too often. The 10.1 and 13-inch sizes can usually be found, normally in the 'red' configuration. The ad for the 17.5-inch was posted on June 26th, 2009, and the listing is found at:
http://longisland.craigslist.org/for/1240689410.html (I am not the seller of the telescope.)
NOTE: I have personally owned both the 'red' and 'blue' 13.1-inch Odyssey I Dobs. The one pictured in the CL ad looks substantially bigger. Comments?

I read that the larger Coulters had very poor optics, is that true? I live 45min away and have spoken with the seller, they don't know any information about the scope.

A small scope that gets used often is a better investment than a big scope that stays in the closet.
Unitrons, you spend more time looking at them than you do through them.

Some 17.5 were good some were bad, but the optics are worth twice the $400 asking price.

And, while not really a classic, it's still a pretty good price!

Not bad, I think I'd go for that Parks if I were in the area.

I found this ad on San Francisco CL. It says free stuff from garage sale that didn't sell. Near the bottom, see telescope. Described as 'telescope with orange tube and mounting'. Could it be a Celestron? Someone needs to go get it! Here's the link: Free Orange telescope
