Turns out it is a Mayflower 820 with a couple of eyepieces. He is asking $100.00 for it and it is in pretty poor condition. The objective is dusty but intact.
Anybody think it is worth a $100.00? I didn't.......

Mayflower has a worthy heritage....just like Swift and Shrine Manon. Actually there is a marketing tie-in with Shrine Manon somehow I forget the details. Mike

Looks like one of those. Rather nice scopes. It's amazing how inventive some people get when they put a telescope together!

Must be from Australia.

A small scope that gets used often is a better investment than a big scope that stays in the closet.
Unitrons, you spend more time looking at them than you do through them.

Is there a general consensus about where to post ads for scopes that may be good deals, but aren't really classics? I seem to remember there being a post about this somewhere on the forums, but I couldn't find it.
I often see Craigslist ads that I know people would be interested in, but I don't know where to post them. An example is this ad for a a 10" Meade SN for $550.
http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/for/1210063335.html
I was going to put this is in the reflector or CAT forum, but I didn't know if that would be frowned upon.

I was always intrigued by those off-axis guider focusers. I wonder how well they worked? Probably better in the digital age with goto mods, I suspect.

Hi All:
I don't recall seeing this one mentioned - a Mayflower 80mm / 1200FL on eBay - looks just like a Towa 339 -- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=220429712231
It's worth a look - seems to be in quite good shape from a quick glance, but it's kinda pricey ($199) if less than mint. Ciao!

If the 80 X 1200 circle T optics scopes are all they are said to be, the minimum bid is a steal IMHO. This one is only an hour north of me. Unfortunately the last 3 60 X 900 circle T scopes I've bought are optically so poor I wouldn't even think of selling them. I just haven't had too much luck with Towa I guess. But this IS an 80mm

Keith.....I don't believe Towa ever made a bad 80mm X 1200mm. However I do believe his starting point is too high. On a bad day I'd go no higher than $250. I had a good day and my Selsi clone I got for $78 and $36 shipping. I don't think anybody bid against me...if there was it was just one other person. But make no mistake the optics are superbo! Mike

Mike,
I've certainly heard a lot of good things about the 80 X 1200. Last week there was a TOWA 80 X 1200 on my local CL. It was posted in the A.M. when I was at work and couldn't look. When I got home and checked the listings (vintage telescopes are very rare on the Eugene CL, but of course I look every day anyway ) it had already sold. At $125 and nearly pristine, someone got a great scope at a great price! Had it been posted for $250 I might have had a shot, and with no shipping, that for me, would have been a steal.

Hi Binary Star and welcome to CN !
I've often wondered the same thing regarding posting of "non-classic" finds from ebay, craigslist, etc. There doesn't seem to be a place for them. I do think that they should be separate from the Classic Telescope forum and they can't go in Shop and Swap since that is only for member postings and not "finds". Maybe our Moderators can make a suggestion?
Welcome again to CN!

I don't see the rest of the clamshell there to repair it with JB Weld. I think that's about it for the price in that condition.

That clock drive is the first one I've ever seen outside of a catalog picture. That is a very very rare find. Mike

If the clamshell broke I have to wonder what kind of jolt the optical tube may have taken.

Look at the dew cap - I bet it's a replacement lens from Meade that was made by Towa - white model 291 ? maybe 60mm f15
