Kris,
Great sketch right down the terminator. At the top (south) I see Regiomontanus all the way down to little Herschel (north). This is a very impressive drawing along the terminator. You must have been working very quickly.

I really like the sketch and the details you've captured. Nice contrast with the terminator and the shadows in the craters.

thanks for the comments guys,
frank, i think it took me about 30 minutes to sketch outside. and now you mention it Hrundi, it looks a bit like a skull indeed! Rich, i used paper and pencil for the sketch, for the areas which should be pitchblack i use this pencil, on which is written 'Conté & Pierre noire drawing pencil' and also '1710 - 2B'. i use it whenever i make a moonsketch.

Beautiful close-up sketch work on the terminator!
I have the same question as Rich and some other details to ask of. What is the medium that you used (I am guessing charcoal on nominal white paper or charcoal paper) and what is the format size of your work? Have you submitted other sketch work in the past? Is this the first moon sketch for you?
I'll look forward to your answers and seeing more sketching from you,
thanks,
Mark

Nice work, Kris. You have to sketch fast to cover that much territory.

Hi mark,
i admire your moonsketches, as well as the moondrawings made by Rich, Frank, rolandlinda and many other people as well on this forum. they're superior to mine in my opinion. to answer your questions: the paper is standard white A4 'drawing paper' a little heavier then copy paper, 120g for 24 papers says the front sheet. for the pencil, look at my reply on rich's question it isn't charcoal, but i guess it comes close to it, it's denser and harder, and i like it for the dark regions because it gives more contrast and depth. this sketch takes up a good portion of one A4, perhaps 60-70%? you can see all my sketchwork if you follow the 'my cn sketch & picture gallery'-link in my sig line at the bottom of my post(s). there are mainly planetsketches, a few deepsky and moonsketches (don't forget to check out my desastreus first moonsketch ) and a few pictures. this is perhaps my 4th or 5th moonsketch.

Kris,
An excellent observation of the lunar terminator. You have captured a variety of lunar craters along the terminator of various shapes. The shadows are interesting as well. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
