I have a celestron 2" legged tri, sv pro 16" extension, and a wo eztouch mount head and am wondering whats the largest sct anyone has successfully used with a similar setup. Cutting to the chase I was thinking of mounting a c11 with a small richfield refractor or counterweights on opposite side to counter the weight of the c11 ota.
Possible???

Well, I had a C11 and have a Orion AZ similar to the EZT. I'd never dream of sticking a C11 on the AZ. It might kinda work if it doesn't topple over, but isn't something I'd expect to be satisfactory. YMMV

I know what your saying Luigi, but I figured my 120ed pro would be the limit of this mount... But the 2" diameter legged tripod and 16" extension add alot of weight and stability to the setup, from using tis setup with my 120ed I could see this mount handling 10 more pounds or so without too much problem as long as its counter weighted well.
I dunno- maybee im crazy, I hate undermounted shaky setups so maybee I need to scrap the idea. I know my M12 sct ota was a beast but the c11's I think weight 25-27 lbs. bare.
The eztouch and similar mounts are rated for 20 lbs, but thats with the stock tripod. I was hoping with my sturdier tripod and extension it may handle 30 lbs.
Any other shots at my crazy idea? lol I just miss aperture
Luigi- this could all be solved if you would just sell me your 17.5" dob...

There are some pictures of C8's mounted on EZ Touch mounts with a wide field. I throw my C6 on now and then with a 90mm Apo to give wide field. Phil

I didn't own the AZ and C11 at the same time so my opinion is based on gut feel rather than experience. If you have the mount and OTA, definitely give it a shot... cautiously. The AZ mount works very well with either or both of my ~16 lb OTAs on it, but my C11 was ~32 lb with finder, focuser, etc., and its CG would be further from the mount due to it's much larger OD. In the AZ mount, the alt axis rides on teflon discs and I can envision them deforming from the load. The EZT may be different.

I believe you'd be better off with a GIRO II mount.

I have mine set up with a C8 on the left side and the WO M80FD + SV50 finder on the right and it works fine.
I don't think I would go bigger than this though since it's hard to track some objects at high power anyway.
