Anyone using a fork for grab and go?
      #3150857 - 06/07/09 05:07 PM

Hello all, I've recently aquired an Oberwerk tripod blem. and want to mount my Antares 127/1200 yard canon on it in a grab and go ob. use and my budget is less than $500. So was thinking fork mount ie helix or televue or oberwerk......
So my questions are ....

1 anyone using a fork?
2 what is the longest refrac. on it?

oh ya the scope weights 25lbs and the tripod is rated for 35lbs

Thanks for your time

John Blair

I love my Helix! I only have a 4" on it but it is absolutely rock steady, and butter smooth.

These mount and tripiod combos are built like tanks. I see no reason why you couldn't hang a 6" refractor on one. A 5" should be fine.
another angle...

I tried a Helix fork for an AP130EDT and even with a large Berger Robotics tripod and a Meade field tripod it wasn't usable over 130x due to shaking. The 8" fork might have been better than the 10" width but I would go with a Giro-III for a lower priced choice of alt az for a long refractor.

Hello Dave, The setup I now have is a U.A. heavy duty tripod with a Stellarvue M6 and it works well but to heavy to carry out for fast setups or travel. Now that I got an Ober.blem, I'm trying to find something lighter and thought a fork.
