You can get GPS for Autostar. Perhaps Meade didn't sell it direct (I can't remember) but Celestron did, I always thought it was a clock conspiracy. Pre LNT of course, now it's an atomic clock module.

Celestron does sell one, but it won't work with Meade scopes. Meade has not sold one direct or otherwise. A couple of 3rd parties have sold GPS receivers for the ETX, but IMHO they were a little kludge-licious, and with the coming of the LNT, not nearly so desirable.

It worked!!!!
Ok, took out the scope last Friday night, despite having mosquitoes all around me, to give the scope one more shot. Well, I went through Auto align and like normal the scope was way off when it pointed to the alignment stars. I adjusted the scope and centered the stars. After getting both it said, "Alignment Sucessful." I thought, "Yeah Right!" I go to the tour and the first object is the Moon. I don't even bother putting a filter on the eyepiece because I know it won't land anywhere near the moon. Well, it slings and finally beeps. I take a look through the EP and am suddenly blinded!! It landed smack dab in the middle of the moon! I couldn't believe it! I figured it was just dumb luck so I decided to go to Saturn. It slings and beeps, I take a look and it has Saturn nearly dead center in the FOV! I can't believe it! I then go to Vega with the same results. At this point I'm getting devoured by bugs so I quickly pack everything up and leave. I don't get it. I haven't done anything to the scope since my last failed attempt and I haven't even done any drive training! I don't know what happened but I'm loving the scope now!

Now that you've finally got your scope doing what it's supposed to do, go to Wallyworld, or wherever, and get yourself a portable Thermacell mosquito/black fly repellant gizmo. It's cheap, it'll work every time, and you'll be able to observe without having to worry about feeding those pesky bugs.

This is a question, not a suggestion....In the initial set-up, isn't Calibrate Sensors required to get best alignment from the LNT? I'm assuming this corrects any misalignment of the LNT from accurate level and pointing.

Calibrate sensors adjusts the LNT for your magnetic deviation at your SITE-- your first alignment star should be CLOSER after this calibration---
PS-- personally I may still need to move the scope a little bit to get the first star inside a 20mm eyepiece..... sometimes. But like I have said-- for public observing I usually setup during the daytime and just push the ENTER key for each alignment star (which I cannot actually see yet!) --- then later GOTO a NAMED star, center and SYNC.
I know this is NOT in the manual but it works!
