Hello All,
I've been lurking here for a while, and this is my first post. Looks like a nice place y'all got here!
I recently purchased my first ETX-90EC (used). My other scope (that I've had for about 10 years) is a 10" Starfinder dob. I bought the ETX because I now find myself with two children who can't really look through the dob yet.
Anyway, I was very pleased to find that my ETX is in very nice shape (it was a risky eBay purchase, but cheap!) and the star test was perfect. The only thing missing is the cap that covers the camera port on the back. I took it out anyway last night, and Saturn looked pretty nice! However, I didn't pick up any of it's moons. As I'm new to this type of scope, it hit me that if that back port was not covered, then perhaps the views might be washed out? I also located the Ring Nebula, with averted vision.
Comparing the two scopes (LOL!) my dob definately picks up more, but I sure like the ETX for portability and quick set-up. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to find the Ring Nebula, though...even though it was pretty much just a faint haze.
I was using the 26mm, switching over to the 12.4mm for close ups....and playing with the 2x Barlow as well.
Anyway, if anyone has any advise as to what would work, short of me calling Meade and ordering the spare cap, please let me know. I'm hoping there's some sort of "standard" cap that will fit.
Thanks!

Welcome to Cloudy Nights Mike, and the ETX forum in particular
You can purchase spare caps.
It would help if we knew where you are - US, UK or somewhere else.
We can then post an appropriate link for you.
I've just seen one in the last couple of days - it is a question of remembering where!

Meade ETX105 (a nice "Grab & Go" scope) & Celestron NexStar 6SE with Bob's Knobs.
Various EP's from 6mm to 26mm, Baader Hyperion 8-24mm Zoom, a 2x Barlow, 2" diagonal and 7Ah PowerTank.
MRF and Antares 8x50 RACI finder scope - both for the 6SE's OTA, whilst the ETX gets a plain RDF.
Canon EOS 400D DSLR (un-modded) and SPC900 webcam. Finally climbing the AP Learning Curve!

OK Mike.
I'll have a look for you.
UPDATE:
A quick look at Astronomics' website didn't turn anything up and a Google turned up Scopes'n'Skies here in the UK, but nothing for the US.
I'm sure one of the guys in the US will be along shortly to help.

I don't think that's what the OP was after Joe.
Mike, you were after a threaded metal rear port cap weren't you?
I'd email Mike Weasner (see this LINK).
If anyone will know where to get one from, Mike will.

Arthur--- opps my bad--
I just looked at my ETX90 --- one of those plastic caps should work until he can locate a regular screw on cap. It will at least keep out dust --- spiders--- and mosquitoes!!!

's OK Joe.
As you quite rightly say, the plastic push-on cap will work just as well to keep crud out of the scope.
I've tried all sorts of searches "threaded end cap", "camera port cap", "ETX screw cap", "rear cover" etc, but haven't been able to pull up a simple result.
I saw one (on eBay??) a few days ago, but can't for the life of me remember where I saw it or how it was described.

Thanks for all the help, folks.
Just got back from vacation. Before I left, I was able to make a cap on my lathe that does the trick. Having the cap in place seems to provide a better view as well.
Thanks again!

Great to hear that you are sorted Mike.
You sound like you are pretty useful with a lathe!
