Well, that doesn't make any sense!
Why publish under the same name if it's a completely different set of charts?
Well, anyway, I edited my previous message to include this remark. If anyone knows of a conversion table between old and new Uranometria page numbers, I'll use it to add the proper column.

Here's a lesson, then: always mention to publication dates and edition used when referring to a resource - just in case.

Well we can add both I guess, I'm not sure if the actual spread sheet is going to be published in the finished product

Is anyone planning on observing any objects from the list this next few days now that the Moon is starting to go closer to third quater and on to new. I think some cordination might be a good thing, or just post what objects and what size scope your using so I can start to put observations together and we can start the editing process

I'm hoping to, but the weather here during the summer monsoon is almost impossible to predict. The odds are against it, I'm afraid.

I've got a couple of lines of description for some of the double stars on the list from my AL list. I will go locate some again for descriptions, but would what I already have be enough, or would you want more?
Sample: Alpha Hercules. Observed during decent seeing conditions. I found the primary to be distictly reddish, and the secondary pale green and somewhat fainter. Quite close at 100X.

Sample description made for the list (I did three of these last night):
Kappa Bootes. Observed under quite good seeing conditions. Description: 48X Primary relatively bright, one of the brightest in the area. Color appears to me to be white, perhaps tinged with pale yellow. Secondary is quite a bit dimmer. The color is hard to determine; possibly dull red. 100X Colors now more distinct. Primary a pale lemon yellow, secondary rather red, but still faint. Wider and easier now. Very nice double, even if the secondary is rather faint. Averted vision helps bring it out, but direct vision makes it easier to determine the color.

Although Preston has suggested emailing the observations to him (we can still do so, of course) I like the idea of posting them here, as well. We can see each other's style and perhaps work toward similar patterns or styles of "reporting", which would make editing the stuff as it accumulates a bit easier.
Preston: does Ian's report have the amount of information you are looking for? Too much? Not enough? (Sorry Ian, don't mean to put you on the spot, but there you are! )

It's sort of my fault! I realize that I need to send them to him, but I'm not nearly done making my observations and I anted to make sure I was doing enough.

My point exactly! For the sake of simplicity, I want to make sure what I do compliments the work of the other volunteers. You just happened to post first. (And no, I wasn't taking you to task for posting instead of emailing. )

Ian, your observations sound excellant, thanks for posting them so others can see how much (or how little) to write.
If y'all want to post observations here too, thats cool too

I did a little bit tonight. Some of these may not be on the official list, but I scribbled some stuff anyway. Here's what I have:
Date: 8-18-04 Scope: ED80 (80mm f/7.5) Eyepieces: 24mm Pan, 11mm Nagler T6, 7mm Nagler T6, 3mm-6mm Nagler Zoom Time: ~22:53 CDT Conditions: Clear, hot, humid, slightly hazy Seeing: Okay
M2 in Aquarius - Faint smudge but easily detectable; did not resolve even at 150x
NGC 7209 in Lacerta - Very faint; almost missed it at 25x; 7mm Nagler showed dozens of faint stars in irregular pattern; very pretty
NGC 7243 in Lacerta - Unimpressive & faint; hard to detect due to background stars; 7mm Nagler gave best view
M39 in Cygnus - Several bright stars, maybe about 2 dozen visible; triangular shape; best view was with 11mm Nagler
That's it for now!

I've got a drying trend in the forcast, so I may get something done in the next night or two. The moon is waxing, but it'll set early enough that I can do some moonwatching AND check some DSOs. (The observing equivalent to having a split personality.)

I haven't done anything for the last month or so because of clouds, and work on the AL Double Star list, but now I'm getting more observing done. I plan to continue to take notes on the double stars. Now that I have a larger 'scope, I hope to do a few other types of objects.
Here's my observations of NGC225. If I'm not too late for this, I'll do more observations the next clear night.
Or if you prefer, the white on black version:

Is it possible we could come up with something of a summary of where this stands. (I'd forgotten all about it until Tom T. posted this link in Announcements! )
