Has anyone taken the OTA out of the forks, or know how they are held on..been thinking of using mine for a guidescope but don't wish toa trash it ot the forks in the process. I can't find any exploded views of the guts...any help would be appreciated..negative views also..it's a great little scope but sits in the closet most of the time now...figured to put it to use on a dual mount with my refractor.

Best thing to do with an ETX, the optics are excellent but the mount isn't.
Two hex bolts at the rear end each side. Ease the cheek pieces apart slightly to clear to locating lugs & slide the OTA out.
Reversing is significantly more awkward but reasonably feasible.

Hi there
To add to brian's comment, the forks are quite stiff and, being made of plastic, you have to be careful prising them apart.
When I removed the OTA from the forks (just out of curiosity I might add), I was very nervous that one (or both) forks would break, you have to use that much force. However, all was well.
I have to disagree with brian's comment about re-installation though. I found that it was a breeze.
Don't forget, however, that the focusing control which passes through the rear cell must be removed as it will not allow the OTA to be pulled forwards.

Have you tried the Mike Weasner's Mighty ETX site? I haven't bothered with the 90 but there is lots of info on my ETX 125PE.

I removed the bottom cover and accessed screws that held the arms to the base. Once the arms were removed from the base the whole tube with arms are free and the arms just slide off with no pressure.

Thanks all..looks fairly straight forward to do..i feel better about it now...LOL This was my first scope and i really like it, and would like to hang on to it.

The RA model has three phillips screws on the bottom plate. It's straight forward. Yours may be covered by rubber feet which must be pulled off to access the screws. Then again I don't know how the EC model is assembled.

Yes, under the rubber feet are the three screws. I ended up removing 2.5 screws (I left one screw partially in place) on one support and that was enough to free up the OTA. Strangely, the spindle/drive side will not detach from the OTA. Maybe I need a hammer,, but for my purposes (spotting scope/digiscoping) it will work.
