Astro-Tech Voyager and 8" SCT? new
      #3175117 - 06/21/09 07:21 PM

Has anyone used a 8" Schmidt Cassegrain OTA on the Voyager mount? I have a Meade I'd like to use on the voyager but I'm wondering about stabilty and vibrations. This would be used as a grab-n-go unit that I could just take out the sliding door onto the deck. Specs claim a true 20 lbs payload but I'd like to hear from some users. Thanks Mike.

I often use a C8 OTA with my Voyager and a Gitzo 1415 tripod as my grab and go set up. However there is some vibration at high magnification (150x) due to the use of this relatively lightweight tripod. The stability would be greatly improved with a CG-5 tripod (2” stainless steel legs) bur then the set up is much heavier.
