Have you tinkered much with the multimedia stuff? It sounds like there's a lot more to the LS than just the automatic alignment and it could be a lot of fun to explore all the features this scope has to offer.

Well, it's got four hours of audio presentations about various objects and about 30 minutes of video if you hook it up to a monitor of some kind. The scope automatically talks when you slew to each object (the ones it knows something about anyway), so it's sort of difficult to avoid the multimedia. It also talks to you during the alignment process to let you know what it is doing. I did not get an opportunity to explore any of the video content, but I suspect it would be very basic. Most of the audio presentations are less than a minute with only basic facts about each object, but it is still very entertaining. I think it brings a lot more perspective to the item you're looking at, even if you're a seasoned observer, when you're reminded of how far away it is, how big it is, how it got its name, etc.
I have not yet taken a picture with the ECLIPS camera either but I don't have high expectations for that.

Hopefully this feature can be disabled ... it would drive me crazy. There's nothing that makes me madder than chatty hardware. Am I the only person who thinks of strangulation every time the nice lady in the sat nav box starts nagging me?

I would "assume" the software would have some sort of volume control???? Maybe not???
Anyway--- It sounds like a "COOL" feature especially for public observing events! Kids will like a talking telescopes!

Yes, there is a volume control that can be turned all the way down. By default the volume is set to half and the talking sounds faint unless you turn it all the way up. There is probably a way to disable it entirely, but I haven't played with that yet.
