Thanks Jay. I like seeing the ones you have on your blog. They help me find new things to see. I got really lucky last night and had decent seeing and transparency. Gotta take them when you can get them these days.

Slartibartfast,
Congratulations with those first sketches. They remind me of my own early sketches.
Keep up the good work.

Mitaccio,
Wow! You went for a blazing start with that sketch.
I know from my own experience that M13 is not an easy target to sketch from.
I look forward to more sketches from your hand.

I never thought this would happen but I did it, I made a sketch. A hole in the clouds allowed me to take the time to measure a few TFOV's and when I was done I realized I had made my first sketch. This is it:

Hello everyone!
I have been browsing this thread and I am very impressed with all of the sketches in here.
I have 2 sketches that I am going to try to scan and submit them to this thread.

Look forward to your first sketches, Chris, as well as seeing all of the others posted here. We just might get a lot of amateurs to put away those CCD's and DSLR's periodically in exchange for some pure astronomical enjoyment - visual observing and sketching.

Hello Sketchers!
Below is a direct link to an observation sheet that Gary Barabino and I designed. It is based on the one we use for our own personal use without the usual VSC labeling. It has fields for most of the information an amateur would like to document during a sketching or imaging session. We hope this sheet can be of use to many of you. Please feel free to share the link, printout copies, or download and change at your discretion. The file is in PDF format.

Hello Mike,
It's very nice of you to share your first sketch over here.
You did an amazing job with your first Jupiter sketch!
I hope that many of your sketches will follow soon.

Hi all,
Years ago I read about sketching and was not impressed. I tried astrophotography but I lost the connection with the night sky. In august 2007 I was listening to a presentation of Rony (rodelaet) and was fascinated by the digital drawings in Photoshop. Couple weeks later I tried it and here is my first digital sketch. You can say I'm a pupil of Rony

Hi Kris,
Thx for the welcome. It was indeed a bad url. This should be fixed now.
