Hi,
OK, still a super-newbie. Especially since the past two weeks has only given me two clear nights! 
I have a Sony F717 camera and an ETX-80. Is it possible to connect this camera with this telescope? If so, what would I need?

Presumably your Sony is lightweight compact [not DSLR] then this is what I use - you're confined to brighter stuff limited by the max exposure in 'night-mode' [~5sec?] with a high ISO setting on cam. I can record Titan and Rhea [Saturn's sats] via my ETX-70+Fuji E550 compact - might even try it on M13  - just experiment.

The link to your video was very helpful, thanks. I not sure that the Sony would work with that setup. It is a bit hard to describe the F717, it is sort of a DSLR wannabe. Here's a link with some more info about it: Sony F717
I got the camera several years ago and have been very happy with it (although it is time for a real DSLR). Despite its looks, it does not have a replaceable lens. However I do think it does have a 58mm thread for adding filters (if that makes a difference).

Well you can do afocal photos tru the eyepice, but that's it.
Only a real DSLR can be connected tru the rear port but a dslr its real heavy for the ETX-80 (unless you use it like nytecam detached from the arms and on a LX200 scope piggibacked), i would not recommend using a DSLR on the ETX-80 directly, it can be used piggibacked above the scope but you would need to balance it so the motors can move it without a problems, like a counterweight in the front.
If you want DSO imagening i would recomend better some of the ccds around like DSI and Starshot from Orion, they are less heavier and can be directly putted where the eyepice is or on the rear port with and adaptor.
You can try your sony just dont expect huble like images! and if you like it maybe later on then you can buy a DSI or starshoot or any other ccd cam and use it for your shots!
