I got to look at one of these close up tonite and these are an impressive looking mount. I'd say if you backed over it with a car, the mount would win. Is this really a $3000 mount? That almost seems low to me after looking at others.

I bought G11 couple years ago. With Gemini it cost more than 3000$ (in Finland). I think that it's not too much for precise instrument. I have tried to make better my self but not yet succeeded.
I have not tryed to back over it but I think that my Chevy pick up might crush it, at least fall it down.
I'm not sure if I got your point.
I have TAL250K on the G11 and I can do well imaging, even the FL is little more than two meters. I'm happy with it and not going to back over it.

New, it'll cost you a bit more than $3k. However, it's a great mount for the money...

Yeah, but not much...$3195.00 is the price for a Gemini equipped mount at the moment, I believe. A very good value in my book. The G11 (and the CGE) are not perfect, but they are a definite step up from the 1500 buck mounts in some ways.

See through polar alignment, heavy duty tripod, and the electronic control panel on it has a lot of inputs for various goodies, looked like a pair of RS-232 ports and a couple of DIN connectors as well.

What do you see as the main aspects of the step up?

Well, off the top of my head, I don't see the perennial threads on here about how to fix their G11...

I'm planning on a G11 too, as I've heard so many great things about it. The Gemini version is £3000 (about $4500) in the UK, so it'll be the standard G11 for me.

I'm looking forward to hefting it between lounge and lawn each clear night!

I had a G11 for 10+ years. No Gemini and didn't use it for AP. It's a very nice solid mount. The tripod it comes with makes an enormous difference compared to tripods of lesser mounts. I took off the knobs used for tightening the leg clamps and replaced them with regular allens to make it easier to tighten them firmly. It's like putting the mount on a stout permanent pier.

I once had a CGE. I was very happy with it until I saw the machining on a G11 set up near by.
Now I can't decide between the G11 or go alt az with a DM 6 for my inbound refractor.

For people on a budget the stepper version G11 is a great value. Regrettably by the time you add a top notch dsc system to the G11 you'll be close to the Gemini price.

The stepper version with or without dscs is pretty much a set it and forget it mount, use it in all weather conditions with no need for adjustments. The Gemini version is a bit more finicky; certainly not more finicky than the inexpensive go-to systems, but certainly finicky if you're used to operating a stepper mount.

People do have "issues" with G11s, most of the "issues" involve how to get PE down to the 5 arc second peak to peak level. So the people spilling the most electrons are trying to get their mounts to work considerably better than say the 15 to 20 arc seconds peak to peak of the new Super Pro Celestron etc.

Anyhow in addition to very good reliability one reason you don't see many "how to fix" posts here is that there is a huge Losmandy Yahoo group which is pretty much the Internet center of these discussions. Nonetheless, most of the discussions that I see these days are about how to take pretty good periodic error and get it down to very smooth low levels. Losmandy Yahoo home page

Good luck,
Greg N

More suited to larger OTAs. For visual use, anyhow. The C14 is really a no-no on an Atlas, but is OK on a G11, if nothing more. PE may be at least _slightly_ better, and the build quality is superior, with machining rather than just casting. All in all, about what you'd expect for twice the price. Not that I don't love the Atlas, but, yes, a nice step up.

Oh, it's certainly not immune from those. Stroll over to the G11 Yahoogroup and you will get your fill. Howsomeever, most are good to go out of the box (as actually most Atlas/EQ6es are)...

I have the G-11 with Gemini and I use it for imaging. It is a very good and solid mount. Works well for imaging or visual use with great Go-To and alignment routines.

The Tripod is solid, like a portable pier and is much more solid than other mounts I have used.

Go-To is a must for photography, it makes finding a target so much easier. But for Visual use, maybe it is not needed if you use the setting circles and are well versed in the position of objects. But small and faint objest are just much easier to find with Go-To.

No, its a $2,100 mount (if you can live without Gemini). Probably the best value for a medium-duty mount.

* Great service from Losmandy.

* Availability of replacement parts.

* The design not changing just for the sake of changing, Losmandy does not come out with "new and improved" G11's just to lessen manufacturing costs. If changes are made, they actually improve the mount.

* Knowing Losmandy will still support the mount for years to come.

Just a few reasons I bought a G11,
