Now all you need to do is count the number of teeth on the RA wormwheel and get a drive for it . If you are lucky it will have 144 teeth ==> you probably rig up an MT1 motor and clutch on it if you have 144 teeth .
I would guess the Tasco drive for this particular GEM is going to be impossible to find (unless you are VERY LUCKY).

Aaron did anything in the box indicate what year this scope was sold? While not a huge tripod mounted reflector fan this one is very nice and the mount takes the cake for a Tasco,,, Very cool. Kind of a precursor to the Super Polairis...

Hi Clint,
you can find the 16T on Robert Provin's catalog site in the 1978 Tasco catalog. This should be the year, when Tasco releases this telescope. My T16 was bought around 1979 in germany, as the pre-owner had in mind.
I will not activly search for the original 15x40 finder, only if I would find it on a lucky day somewhere on ebay (?), maybe I'll try to get one.
The actual mounted 8x50 finder is a very good one !
The Tasco ( Mizar ) mount has 180 teeth in RA. As I said before : the Tasco 16T IS the Mizar CX-150.
The wonderfull thing : if you unscrew the barlow element, you get a fast 150/730 mm reflector with sharp images !!!
Kind regards, Michael

Hey Michael, have you had a chance to get your new baby out under the sky?
While I'm sure it will be a pleasure to use, I'll bet I speak for all of us when I say, "Please provide a 1st Light report on that rare instrument!"

Hello dear friends,
after a long search, I have found a picture from the optical design of the Tasco 16T / Mizar CX-150 catadioptric-newton.
This draw I found in a japanese forum :
As I emntioned before : if you remove the barlow-element, you get a fast 150/730 mm newton with razorsharp images !!
Because of the bad weather here, I had only the chance to take a short look at moon yesterday morning. I had very crisp and high quality views, better than in my old Meade 127NT500 newton and better than in my old TAL ( sovietzky ) 150/750 newton !!!
It seems to be an optical high quality barlow/corrector element and the parabolic main mirror seems to be of very good quality !!

This story is getting more and more mysterious : in the 1978 Tasco catalog is written, that the main mirror is a parabolic one. Yesterday I got a manual for the ( identic ? ) Mizar CX-150, and in this manual the mirror is described as a spheric one !! Strange !!
But anyway : the quality of this optics seems to be high class !
Kind regards, Michael
EDIT : I was totally wrong with the mirror and have to excuse me for the wrong rumours I launched here !!
I read the Tasco catalog again and in fact theres with no word mentioned, that the mirror is parabolic ! Maybe I was drunken ?!
In fact it is a spheric mirror, but a good one !!
I saw very good spheric mirrors in the russian reflectors by TAL - for example the TAL 1 ( 110/805 mm and the TAL 2M 150/1200 mm ).
