I didn't like the pin going through the end hole and instead used a washer and nut threaded all the way to the ends of the thread which then sits on the inside of the ring to keep the screw in position. My friend who was helping me out while I was building my scope showed me this and it works great. Here are a couple pics of the clamp assembly and the hole the pin goes through with the metal base on top (?) and the tube holder below. The base that keeps the pin lock from scratching the plywood is pressed in and should be available from a hardware store or cabinet shop supply. The terminology is mine.
