I'm using an Epson V700. The small images with the film sprocket holes are actually composites. I scan the film normally in the film holder(usually 2400dpi) and then rescan the strip in reflective mode and combine the two. I do this because I like the sprocket holes as a decorative frame, and also as a way to identify the frame number so if I ever want to rescan in the future I can find the right frame easily.
I'm looking into finding a better holder for medium format as mine has snapped and been glued back together numerous times. Some day I may bite the bullet and get one of the holders from betterscanning.com.

What a difference a couple of f stops makes. I love what the v700 scanner does. Good job. I have the Microtek i800 which has really been difficult for me to figure out - Silverfast - gives you a lot of processing power - but requires a higher skill level - which I'm just starting to aquire.
Here's a shot of Sagittarius with my Pentax 67, 90 lens at f5.6. I could only go 68 minutes as the mount was all the way over and camera about to hit the tripod, so I had to cut it short. I was hoping for 90 minutes. Jim - Nightfly has pointed out the red - magenta - pointing to under exposure. Detail was coming - but so was the field rotation. Lots going wrong - and I'm learning - painfully. It was auto guided - thankfully. I had to cover the lens 3 times for airplanes - about 20 times for car lights - glare. Friday night and the boys were leaving town late.
I left the crud on the film intentionally to show you guys what my local lab does to my film. This is why I'm looking at developing my own. Every single frame from 6 rolls of film has something on it from them. Thankfully, I haven't produced anything worthwhile - yet.

My best work to date. Take at last Nov - hunt camp - Bortle 2 skies.
Star trails on a tripod. Pentax 67 - 90 lens at 2.8 - 45 minutes E200. Can't believe how bright this lens got the trees. I mean it was so dark I could not see the gravel path at my feet without the red light on.

Nice shots Igor. I would think 68 minutes would be plenty long enough for this area. Looks like a color issue. Since your local lab seems none too concerned about the quality they put out such a color shift could be from contaminated or spent chemistry, especially the color developer.
I haven't used Silverfast but you probably can apply some color correction to these when you scan, or afterward with a photo editor and restore them quite a bit.

I've been working hard on my scanning, and learning CS2. What I have been doing is after scanning - putting the film on the light box and looking thru a loupe to match my screen to the film.
I've since changed the monitor calibration a number of times, and have finally settled on Adobe 1998. Now my scan looks way heavy in the magenta.
I've almost come to the conclusion that the guys doing the processing, are doing it on purpose. They don't want to be bothered doing E6. Nightfly has put me onto a lab in Ottawa - which still does hand dip & dunk. Next films go to them.

Are you using your own E-6 processing to do this slide film? I've done a little E-6 processing in a tank, and actually spent about a year working in a la=b doing C-41 and E-6 processing and am familiar with the process, but if I remember correctly E-6 is very temperature dependent. You can vary the temperature slightly to push or pull the process but you will get some color skewing.
Still nice to see slide photos. It brings back memories.

I made a composite of two frames for an extra wide view. I aligned the frames manually with Photoshop and it was quite a bit of work tweaking the rotation, etc. Anyone here have a better way?

Brendan,
Nice looking composite.
I've had very good luck with autostitch.
www.autostitch.net
Download the demo. It's fully functional, no watermark. Play around with the settings. PM me if you have questions.
It does everything automatically. I've combined up to 7 frames and it's amazing.

Thanks for the tip, Jim! Unfortunately, Autostitch could not detect a panorama in my images. My overlaps must be too small. But I did find a solution that had been right under my nose. Photoshop CS4 has improved upon its 'photomerge' feature from previous versions. There is a new mode called 'collage' which can rotate and scale composite pieces and it was able to combine my photos without a hitch.
Here is the output...
View it larger HERE.
Thanks for looking!
