Yesterday the new cycle sunspot was a little bit bigger than the day before. Also much more detail was visible (I dit not see the penumbra on the first day) It's a lot of fun to follow the appearance and movement of these spots during a couple of days!

I use a normal pencil (2B hardness) on white paper. The sketch is then scanned to Photoshop and the brightness/contrast and colour balance is adjusted. That's all!

Very nice sketch of this sunspot group It looks photo-realistic.
You've inspired me to take a look through my h-alpha as soon as the clouds lift.

Roel,
An excellent and very realistic observation of the new cycle sunspot group (1024). You have recorded the penumbra very nicely. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Roel,
*Very* fine drawing. AR 1024 has rotated around the solar limb now, but between the two of us, we have a record of this AR in white light from July 4th to July 7th. Include Dee's pastel and pencil sketches and the three of us have a record in WL and Ha.
