What binoculars to get new
      #3203775 - 07/07/09 09:50 AM

I'm looking to get a good set of binoculars for use as a spotting scope in long range shooting sports and use for star gazing at times. I currently have two Bushnell single spotting scopes mounted in the holder with a tripod for this but I'm now looking for a little better set up with a clearer picture at 600 to 1,000 yards. Seeing I can't get eyepieces for these Bushnell Spacemasters anymore need something now but can't afford the Kowa Highlanders or similiar. I know optics is all aout what you pay but was hoping with the advancements maybe there is somthing good for lesser money right now.

I wear eyeglasses so eye relief is a big factor also.
Any suggestions, help????

What size holes are you trying to spot?

Does the binocular / scope need to be waterproof?

How much are you thinking of spending?

A small telescope with one or two eyepieces would give better views of the holes in the target, unless you go with a more expensive binotelescope.

Most spotting scopes have a zoom eyepiece that goes from 20x to 60x.

A nice 80mm ED telescope with a couple of different diagonals and eyepieces would make a fine dual purpose telescope. Many telescopes will accept a binoviewer.

a 5mm hole at 600 yds is 2 aarcseconds. To see that you are going to need a minimum of about 50x. You might be able to strain your eyes to see that at 40x. You'd never see it at 1000yd. unless you used about 70x-80x.

you need a scope.
