15 day old moon

This sketch was done with black strathmore artagain paper, and my other typical solar kit: Conte' and Prang white pencils, black charcoal, and black oil/waxy pencil stick.

Any blending done was with my fingers. Sketch size is about 7" in diameter.

Erika,

A fantastic observation of the 15 day old Moon. You have recorded the maria and the bright-ray craters (e.g. Tycho, Copernicus) very nicely. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

Erika

Beautiful rendering I can feel the surface of your paper and relate to the entire effort of your process. Seeing your excellent sketch today makes up for what I could not do last night >

I looked at the moon rising through my binoculars and noticed the exact image that you produced with the slight terminator lined edge a few hours after full. I could not wait to do a sketch but then the clouds rolled in fast.

Erika,

This is a great whole moon sketch. It is rendered with great detail all across the globe. The moon juts outward in 3-D from the paper beautifully. I hope your paper remained flat with that high humidity. EXCELLENT post.

Frank

Erika! It's... It's ... Just stunning!!! The amount of detail in this beautiful sketch is startling. Every mare, crater and ray is so precisely placed. Frank is quite correct about the 3D feel to the disk, it's incredible! I love that bit of terminator that you captured, I think it actually thrusts the face of the Moon off the plane of the paper. Wow!!!

Wow. Thanks everyone! I have to admit I'm very out of practice and was running out of steam by the end of the session. But it was a great study and the night was perfect for such a prolonged lunar session. Paul was imaging the Eagle and Crescent nebulae with his h-alpha imaging filter behind me and prodded me to keep going when he knew I was getting tired.

Tremendous piece of work! I will assume you had as much joy in creating this as we do in looking at your finished work. Thanks for sharing the work, it is truly stunning.

Very nice and a lot of work packed into this one. Good to see you post Erika. Glad you had a clear night too because my weather reviews show your area pretty socked in during most days.

Thanks Tom and Roland. Our cloud coverage has been hit and miss. Thankfully we've had several nights of clear, steady skies. The days have been very hazy. We're back to overcast tonight.
