This is a new thread, to be stickied atop the forum, in which to post, or provide links to, material to help members trouble shoot their Meade ACF/RCX / LX / GPS scopes. It is a generalized thread, open to tips on any of the scopes included in this forum. This is a bit of an experiment to see if it works, but it is worth a try.

LX200 Autostar 2 fix
I set up my LX200 GPS 10" for the first time in about a year and found I was getting a pesky "trap 2 proc." error whenever I tried alignment, slewing w/controller etc. The scope would also go into a constant slew mode requiring a power shutdown to stop the slewing.
It turns out the fix was easy, but not obvious. I removed the scope's face plate (where the cables plug into the scope--NOT THE CORRECTOR PLATE ON THE OTA) and noticed a 3 volt lithium mounted on the back side of the circuit board.
It turns out the lithium battery was nearly dead. after replacing the battery and putting everything back together, everything works! The nearly dead lithium battery was the problem.
To get access to the battery is a minor hassle, but not too bad. several connectors need to be disconnected.
I hope this is helpful

Thanks for the post but more likely is that you unplugged and replugged those connectors, and that fixed it. The lithium battery only keeps the clock working, if it goes bad it should not cause random slews.

Our club has been having problems with our 12" LX200GPS. I tried cleaning contacts, replacing batteries, even brushing the electronic control board of dust. It still has a problem. Just as it starts the alignment at level/tilt it will point the scope to the ground without stopping till it's turned off. It had done this numerous times while observing, sometimes out of the blue. Now it does it all the time. It had also done the same on the other axis turning all the way to the right not stopping till it was turned off. In either direction it would continue till it reached the stops and still tried to go past.
Any other suggestions on a fix? It should have been covered by Meade's lemon policy but they just tried to fix it four or five times. Now we don't have a warranty.
William
