Thanks Andy!
The electrical inspection is due to take place this Friday, so we can't do anything on the interior of the observatory until that is done. The metal pier is supposed to be ready this Thursday to pick up. It will have a primer coat and we are going to give it a HammerBrite enamel finish in grey. After that is done and the pier installed on the pier support then we can build the raised wooden floor around it and also build in the warm room wall and steps separating the two rooms.
Today was caulking and primer painting. There's more to do tomorrow!
A really great tool for caulking is an air caulking gun run off an air compressor. Paul didn't see any at the tool shop so he had one ordered for about $25 -- really saves time and creates a very even caulk line with less waste!

From a distance the observatory with some primer on it... The back is mostly painted and the rest will probably be finished with the primer coat tomorrow. There will be 2 coats of paint on top of that...

Thanks Chris!
Thanks Jeff! The construction is nearly all the work of Jay -- Paul did the designing and guidance. Mostly, I've just watched, inspected, put in my 2 cents about useful features I'd like incorporated, done some clean up, and been amazed at the skills, hard work and great progress Jay and Paul have achieved!
Seriously, I think Jay might, at some point, consider building other observatories, I think he's enjoyed it -- who knows!

Nah, Paul is best at that! Thanks Dave!
Today was just more painting getting done. Tomorrow will finish all the exterior painting that can be done before the gutters and downspouts are installed. Then the ends can be sealed, sided and painted to finish. And....we get the metal pier to paint!

Excellent images and what a great observatory, this is really taking me back to when I built my observatory in 2007. Though your one is so much nicer!

Thanks so much for the kind words on the observatory Scott K, JimPie and Chris!
Well, the metal pier isn't finished - now they say it'll be ready next week. But we've still got plenty to do so it's no real biggie. Tomorrow the electrical inspection will be done and then we can do insulation on the inside at least.
Today the custom-size gutters were installed on the rolling roof section which enabled fitting the siding piece which will also have a rubber gasket seal on the back of the cut-out in the interior to keep out water and bugs. There's downspouts to put up also on this section, then trim boards and paint. Then there's the gutters and downspouts to add to the stationary roof section. Bit by bit we're gradually getting there! Pretty soon we'll just have the interior to work on.
