Everyone's made this mistake right? new

Tried doing an afocal shot of the moon. My first attempt at an astrophoto through my c925 (and probably my second attempt on any scope).

Oh well, hope you get a chuckle out of it, as i did oops!

LOL, that's awesome! Well, despite the "oops" part, the craters look really crisp!

I kinda like it. It's like you have the moon in a glass jar or a marble or something.

kinda reminds me of the "necklace" on the cat in the movie "Men in Black". The one where it contained a whole galaxy inside

Thanks for fixing the link Alex,

I have never had an Afocal shot like that but i like it, like seeing the moon in a glass orb.

If you can get an Afocal shot with craters that sharp the way you intended, then the image will be a sweet one!

Tom.

Whoops! Still a happy accidental result. Sorta like looking out the spaceship window.

You might be onto something creative, Alex. If you could back up the camera a bit to get more of the focuser in the image and still achieve focus in the eyepiece, tone the flash down a bit...
You've got my wheels turning!

hm, interesting point there tommyhawk..

I could set up an external flash to illuminate the scope at the right intensity to get the moon clearly in the eyepiece (it's a 2" so that is helpful) that would make a pretty darn cool shot. Good thinking, I'll give that a try.
