Rubber feet missing on new scope new
      #3224171 - 07/17/09 09:17 PM

I received my new ETX-90PE yesterday. After examination, the 3 rubber feet under the scope base are missing. I can see the three screws and some glue residu around them. The seller offered me to exchange the scope and Meade refuse to send me the missing parts. They want me to send them the scope as a repair!!!

I could easily find something similar to replace them but I'm wondering if Meade could argue that the scope have been openned if I ever need to have my scope repaired under warranty.

What do you think?

They probably would. The important thing is to send it back to Meade. Those three missing items probably means that someone opened your Scope. That means that there is probably something wrong with it or something was wrong with it. Do not accept a bad new unit. Get a replacement good unit and start out right.

So long as your dealer made the offer, go ahead and just exchange the scope. You're going to get much faster service from the dealer than dealing directly with Meade. Much as I love their scopes, they have an abysmal customer service reputation. Exchange it and then it's the dealer's headache. In fact, I'd go ahead and authorize the dealer to open the box and do a visual check of the condition before they send you another one, just to be safe.

In any event, do NOT keep that scope! Even if it's something as simple as they forgot to put the feet on at the factory, you have no way of knowing that, and Meade could raise a stink if anything (God forbid) ever did go wonky in the mount. Get an instrument that you can be reasonably sure is pristine.
