Walking Along the Edge new
      #3219368 - 07/15/09 01:15 PM

NGC 5907 sketch page is linked here.

Thanks, Frank, for inspiring me with your sketch to go take a look. While it was not the greatest of nights to observe, it was still a good one to give thanks.

Terrific sketch, and I always enjoy reading your observing reports that go with them. Has Linda been observing and sketching lately? Send her my best, please.

Roland,

THAT IS A FANTASTIC SKETCH. I certainly am happy you sketched this one and posted it. Like Erika said your report is just perfect. Excuse me while I go back and look at this edge-on galaxy sketch again.

Thank you for asking, Erika. She does not sketch nearly as often and has some physical limits but still stays busy with various charitable things. I will relay your greetings. I was thinking of you folks the other night...remembering our brief observing period but fun visit.

Wonderful drawing, Roland. Even better since it was inspired by one of the great contributors to this forum. Friendly competition is useful and I'm all for it, but I can't think of a more valuable reason for the forum than for us to inspire one another to do our best.

"How can I not give thanks for the opportunity?" Indeed.

Thanks everyone. I am glad you enjoyed it. Frank, thanks again and for your comment...it is a very nice target. I really wanted to spend time with NGC 4036 afterwards but the weather has not been good enough since the night I grabbed this one.

As for the comments on the words/lessons, it is so good to be able to go to my Father in the name of Jesus Christ in order to ask about what to learn when I do these study/sketch projects. While this is probably senseless to non-believers and silly to others, the process is real, not contrived, and dependent on something far more reliable than my own thinking.

Roland,

An excellent observation of this very interesting edge-on galaxy. You have rendered the galaxy's central bulge and dust lane very nicely. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

Superb sketch Roland, your use of color is wonderful. You mentioned in another post your love of edge-on galaxies and I just wanted to tell you how much I find these galaxies fascinating. Great job!

Thanks Richard. My problem is that I like so many types. Now I want to get back to some barred spirals, which I also find fascinating.

Thanks Rony. Enjoyed your M27 also. Wish you were with us one night when we catch it using the video astro....the contrasting greens, blues, and reds/pinks knock you socks off!
