I don't have TV reception, so I'll be missing it.
But I saw every second of it the first time around!

Good series, it is available on VHS (maybe DVD too). It is very good, the astronauts look young compared to now. This originally aired in the mid 1990s if I recall.

Hi Rick,

I saw it the first time too. I remember the teacher allowing us to go out to the school yard to watch the rocket liftoff. I'll never forget it.

I thought this was a new show. Oh well.

peace & clear skies,

To All

All I can say is "Those were the days". What happened to all the excitement of the space program?

Humm, well let's see:

1. Orbiters, landers, and Rovers on Mars (detection of sedimentary rock and confirmation that liquid water once flowed on the planet).
2. Cassini in orbit around Saturn.
3. New Horizons on its way to Pluto
4. Dawn spacecraft on its way to Vesta and Ceres
5. HST observations.
6. Lunar Reconnaisance Orbiter surveying the moon with LCROSS due to impact in October.

I think there is a lot of excitement with the space program. However, most of the excitement is not with the manned aspect, as with crewed flights, we don't seem to be going anywhere other than LEO. Hopefully, going back to the moon or onto the asteroids or Mars will help a little here. Clear skies to you.

Well, I saw a trailer for it tonight. Did it talk about the danger of the mission? Nope.. Did it bring up the remarkable achievement of the moon flight? Nope, sorry. What did it talk about? THE STUPID APOLLO 11 UFO!! Gad, the bunch at the History Channel will do just about anything to get people to watch. All that UFO was was one of the SLA panels that were jettisoned after the CSM separated from the 3rd stage of the Saturn V. I will be at the Nebraska Star Party when this thing airs, so unless it is cloudy that evening, I will probably miss it. I will have to check in to see if HC actually tells the truth or clings to the UFO story as "unexplained". Somehow from their track record, I am expecting something along the line of the "unexplained" from the History Channel. Clear skies to you.

We need a dedicated Space Programming channel only, no ufo's allowed.

It's all still exciting, but to the same bunch of people - us. But, we're getting older, and younger folks have been subjected to such sensory overload that actual space exploration is boring by comparison.
The Moon landing is, to them, like D-Day is to my generation. Something from the remote past, before their time, something that doesn't really take on real form and meaning unless you actually study the event and understand what it really meant, how really big it was.
Landing on the Moon, with less computer power than the average digital watch has now - now, THAT's tough enough!

And the backup computer on the Apollo was a slide rule. For you guys who remember slide rules it was a Pickett N600.
