I was checking out a website I visit daily, www.physorg.com, and came across a story about galaxies. In the story they mentioned a program called Galaxy Zoo. I checked out the website and read what it is all about. It is a program similar to Einstein@Home and other such programs, but this one uses people instead of computing power. What they ask is that you view the list of over 250,000 galaxies and classify them according to features you notice and which set them apart from others i.e. Ellipsoidal, sprial, or dwarf galaxies, as well as color and other features. This program isn't just all fun and games, it helps to critically classify all known galaxies as this will aid in scientific discovery such as the evolution of older, Big Bang remnant, galaxies & stars. So while we can't look through our scopes we might as well be productive. This will help us all brush up on DSO's and help the scientific community tremendously. Here are the links for the program and the story which was affected by the program. I hope you all enjoy. Clear skies everyone!
