A Collection of Planetary Nebula new
      #3248746 - 07/31/09 12:57 PM

I've done some observing and if your interested, head over to my blog for details. Here is a sample of several planetary nebula that I observed and sketched:

NGC 6339 is a PN in Ophiuchus and is nicknamed the Little Ghost Nebula. Seeing was not that great that night though at 200x I did catch glimpses of irregularities around the halo. Upon returning inside that morning I found that it can have a ring look around it and I kinda of captured that in my sketch as a partial ring on each side. It appeared grayish white to bluish white while looking at it. It is listed as a mag. of 12.9 with the central star mag. at 15.9 (no evidence of that central star tonight!). A fun object to observe and one I'll return to from a darker site.

The other image is NGC 7027 in Cgynus. Rather easy to locate I thought the PN appeared emerald green to me. I had visited the Blinking Nebula earlier that night and sure enough, the blinking blinked with no filter, but when I put in the Ultrablock NB filter, the Blinking Nebula showed out really well, but the blinking ended. NGC7027 however, blinked without the filter, and then at 92x with the filter it continued to blink. I thought that was interesting. Limiting Mag is around 10.4 or so. This object is very bright and I have probably made it a little larger than I saw in the scope just to enhance the view. It has a very bright surface brightness. I enjoyed this site about this PN.

Jay,

Two beautiful planetary nebula in Cygnus and Ophiuchus. The colors are striking. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Hi Jay,

I see I need a lot to learn. I like the detail you put into NGC 6369.

Carlos, Eric, Kris, Gunter and Rony,

Thanks so much for your kind words. I hope as I continue to play with GIMP my abilities with that tool improves. I am getting Photoshop and a new scanner in September so that should help (car repairs got in the way).

Jay,

These planetary nebulae sketches are top drawer. I also went over to your blog as Rich did - great work over there too.
