Jupiter and the moon
      #3258769 - 08/07/09 01:56 AM Attachment (15 downloads)

This is my first attempt at sketching Jupiter through a telescope, and the first actual clear night this summer. The seeing was terrible, but I still managed to pick out a few details as they popped into view.

Tenth,

Very nicely done on both. I like the details on Jupiter and your capture of the GRS.

On the second sketch I really like the depth perception your drawing gives and the nice effect of the clouds interacting with the moon. Great job and thanks for sharing them.

TenthEnemy,

Two beauties. The jovian sketches looks very nice with great surface detail. The pastel sketch is fantastic. As I look at the cloud detail in that sketch I am really impressed with the amount of work you put into it.

TE,

Both of these sketches are marvelous and beautifully rendered. Lovely view through the branches of the trees at a cloud enshrouded, glowing gibbous Moon. Well done!

TE,

An excellent observation of Jupiter (graphite) and the Waxing Gibbous Moon (pastel). You have recorded some detail over Jupiter including the Great Red Spot (GRS). The pastel rendering of the Waxing Gibbous Moon is moody and well rendered. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I found Jupiter to be unexpectedly difficult, its appearance changed a lot during the sketch.
