20" Counterweight Shaft for Atlas/EQ-6 & Sirius...
      #3260477 - 08/07/09 11:57 PM Attachment (28 downloads)

We are now offering a 20" Counterweight Shaft for Atlas/EQ-6 & Sirius/HEQ-5 Mounts. This finely ground & polished stainless steel counterweight shaft is intended to solve what can be a serious short coming of the Atlas/EQ-6 & Sirius/HEQ-5 style mounts, the inability to balance heavy instrument loads due to the very short factory supplied counterweight shaft. Using our 20" long counterweight shaft will allow you to balance loads that weren't previously possible to balance, and can allow you to use less counterweight than before.

Pricing

20" Counterweight Shaft for Atlas/EQ-6 & Sirius/HEQ-5 Mounts - $95.00 + S&H

Are these shafts of the same diameter as the stock shafts; i.e., will I be able to use the stock counter-weights?

Yes! You can use the stock weights with this shaft. It was made to use straight out of the box with the stock mount and weights, NO MODIFICATION required.

The shafts measure .705" dia. (just under 18mm) the same as the stock shafts.

I have purchased the 20 inch CW shaft for my CGEM...the workmanship is absolutely first rate and the flexability it affords, especially if you're mounting over 30 pounds of hardware, make it a very worthwhile purchase.

Allow me to add some kudos, too! Not only are these shafts beautifully finished for the PURPOSE, they are also considered "scope BLING"!:)
Really nice look, really nice performance.
My CGEM is now much easier to balance and I can dramatically reduce the number of counterweights needed to get the job done.
First class product!

Mike Harvey

What is involved in removing the stock shaft and installing yours?

To install the 20" Atlas/EQ-6, Sirius/HEQ-5 Shaft; (1) Loosen the 3 radially spaced recessed hex set screws under the dovetail receiver, (2) lift the receiver out of the mount, (3) push the stock shaft up and out of the mount, (4) then slide the new shaft in inplace of the old one. (5) Reverse 1 & 2 to reinstall dovetail receiver. Caution! Be sure the hex set screws are very tight!!!
