ETX-80 and external barlows

Hello...has anyone tried using their ETX-80 with an external barlow? I tried a pair of them last night (the Meade #126 2X and Opt's 2.5X short (made by GSO). Both are very short barlows. I was dismayed to discover that I couldn't get the eyepiece into focus. The focus travel for the scope came up just a bit too long (was having to shorten the scope) and therefore was unable to focus. It surprised me, as the #126 from Meade was made for the ETX60 and 70 series, so I thought certain it would be okay for the ETX80. I had hoped to use an external barlow to reduce focus time when switching to the barlow.
