Finally!!!!!
      #3262950 - 08/09/09 12:25 PM Attachment (53 downloads)

The sky cleared up last night. All the clouds blew to the west coast. 257x mag. through my 5" Mak. seeing 3/5, transparency 4/5, mosquitoes 10/10. This looks a lot better in person. I found out my scanner really sucks. So I used a small $10 camera and photographed this. Tried to get some of the grain out but it is what it is. It was just nice to be in the eyepiece again. Maybe I'll get a better camera sometime.

Very nice jupiter sketch, you can turn of the flash and take the photo in daylight and it will come out better, thanks for posting.

Shannon, An excellent sketch of Jupiter with moons and moonshadow. You really caught a lot of detail from your 5" Mak. You might try adjusting the gamma or gain on your scanner as factory settings can sometime be inadequate. As Tommy indicated, a more diffused lighting really helps when photographing your sketch, daylight is fine as long as it doesn't reflect glare from direct rays. I've found a combination of florescent and incandescent lights work very well with color photography, indoors in the evenings. I'm sure others here have their own preferences, there are a number of us who work pretty large and in color. Great job Shannon, so very happy your weather finally gave you a shot at a sketch!

Shannon,

Nicely done and I enjoy your sketch of the King and its moons and the transit. I hope you get more observing time.

Thanks All. I will check and see if there is a way to adjust gain on the scanner. Do the rest of you use scanners or cameras?

Shannon, I have been using both. Each seems to have pros and cons. I am a bit more confident with a scanner because I began that way but a camera with added CF lamps and Tungsten filaments bulbs works great.
