So you wake up at 4am and stumble out of bed to find a really nice clear sky and a moon beckoning to be imaged... So you rush to set up because you know dawn is not far behind you. You decide now would be a good time to shoot a 12 panel mosaic of the moon in rapid fashion (100 subs each panel @ 1/3 sec) with the LPI and Nexstar 4SE. As you see the sky starting to lighten up, you pick up the hand controller and decide to set up your panel framing manually.. Mission complete by 5:05AM. So then you sit down at lunch to begin assembly. First row looks GREAT. Second row starts off well, and then you find...
The black canyon of poor panel alignment death! AAAAARGGG!

So... with that being said, here are a few of the panels I thought turned out ok on their own:

And this one I actually did not increase saturation at all, I managed to just get a really good set of subs with strong color data. Unsharp Mask and Levels only. Little constrast unfortunately, being on the far bright side.

I never trust that square area around Aristarchus and Schroeter. It's too regular not be a processing artifact, but since everyone sees it the same way, I guess it really is that square.

Mosaic voids are a bummer! A larger chip size will help. I moved to the DMK41AF02 mainly for this reason.
The Aristarchus region in color is a very interesting image. The squareness of the plateau is very real:

Nice work Josh, I know how you feel about the voids. Been there, done that.

My last mosaic also has a void in it. Glad to know I not alone. Nice views though.

Agreed. I originally used a DSI II color to do lunar mosaics and it did make life easier. I parted with that camera, however, and only have an SSII mono. While I have stopped to take the time to shoot the moon with it, the SSII always seems to produce an interlaced/screen door effect in the images. As best as I can tell, I think it's just too much too fast for the SSII and trying to write every sub to disk fast enough. The LPI does have its limits, but it's performed better than I could anticipate.
Here's a few completed recently with the LPI that didn't have gaps:

I am considering at some point getting an Imaging Source camera. My LPI is fun but I'm reaching its limits I think.

Thanks Mick. I think my wife had a good chuckle at it today when she saw the "finished product". She tends to use my lunar mosaics as her wallpaper, somehow I don't think this one made it there.
