Not sure about all of you but I still enjoy looking at sketches of Jupiter even though there are a lot of them. So here is another one!

The King is always good to look at. Like your sketch and observation.

Paul,

A very nice sketch of Jupiter showing the major belts (North Equatorial Belt (NEB) and South Equatorial Belt (SEB)). It appears that you have recorded the bright rifts within the major belts. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Ironically the Jupiter Observation template that you are using I designed years ago and ALPO has used it as their own (certainly a compliment!)

Carlos

Paul,

The Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers (ALPO) is a an established and respected organization for the study of the Moon and planets. I gave them the form to use and I am not insulted if they do not mention the creator of the form. I would suggest that the members of the forum consider becoming members of ALPO as they can learn a great deal from it's experienced sections.

It is a very good organization. I belonged years ago but only have limited money and had to choose only one, so now am a member of the AAVSO instead. Stil ALPO is a great resource and deserves support.

Great sketch. The detail you've captured matches to the tee what I saw in my 8" inch Dob last night.

Out of curiosity, do you use a filter when viewing and sketching Jupiter? I tried a neutral density filter on Jupiter for the fist time last night and was surprised how much it actually helped tamp down the excess brightness and bring out subtle cloud details.

Anyways, just curious because of the similarities between your sketch and my own viewing experience.

Right now the only filter I use is a Celestron/Baader Minus V for Chromatic Abberation from the short focal length refractor. I have used several colored filters in past years but have not broken them out as of late.
