Pencil on the Piccolo new
      #3270431 - 08/13/09 01:49 PM Attachment (7 downloads)

I don't pretend to be very good at pencil alone but I wanted to take a whack at Piccolomini on the evening of the 10th. We have had a summer cycle of muggy-broken cloud-nights, so finding clear sky has been pretty rare. On August 10 we had several hours of rather clear but hazy skies so I grabbed the moment. Pencil on black is hard for me because I cannot seem to get shadows right and its harder for me to correct my booboos. Nevertheless, it was a nice summer season sketch time...and a good night to give thanks.

Roland,

Very nice sketch you captured it quite well. I like the way you handle the features that make this crater so easy to recognise.

Beautiful sketch Roland! Is this white pencil or graphite?

Roland,

An excellent job at rendering Piccolo using graphite. You have recorded the central peak and terraced walls very nicely. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Thanks all. Rich, my white pencil is a prismacolor/PC938...the white I use for pretty much all star stuff or this. The black graphite pencils were a run-of the-mill drawing pencil. The problem for me is that the black pencil is shiny to my eyes unless the light is perfect so as not to give a glare off the surface that appear lighter than the black paper. On any other color paper, it does not happen but on black its hard for me. Any suggestions?
