IYA Goal Complete! new
      #3273125 - 08/14/09 08:14 PM

I finally after 2-3 years finished the Messier list. I will be presented with the Messier Certificate at our local Star Party if my Log pans out. I am sure they will. I keep very detailed records, and Skytools prints out the important information.

I started my list at M42 on Sep 24th, 2007 at 4:05AM and ended with M75 on Jul 21st 2009 at 1:30AM.

Virgo was the worst! I have a 4" scope, got most but all were dim, couldn't confirm, got a 12" scope, well they are brighter but there is also twice as much in the field. LOL

Can't wait to continue with other lists

Congrats! I also (finally) completed the M's earlier this year, after a three year period. Was stuck at 104-105 for a while, just couldn't seem to get those last few until recently.

I know what you mean about the 12" pulling in too many Virgo objects...I went through that area here at home in the burbs so that only the brighter ones (Messiers) would be visible. Still found a few NGC's which made me stop and consult my charts more closely.

Once again, good job, and good luck on your next list. One that was recommended to me was the Saguaro Astronomy Club's Top 110 NGC Objects. I'll be starting this one in the fall. There's a link on their site if you're interested.
