LX200 Classic "High Precision" mode question
      #3275740 - 08/16/09 12:53 PM

(LX200 Classic 10" permanently mounted)

The instructions on page 19 seem to be lacking and the steps seems to be disjointed, or maybe it's just me.

Can anyone here explain the specific steps to utilize the High Precision mode?

I would sincerely appreciate the steps others use to go into and use this mode.

Thank you

Dan

Been a while but IIRC what I did was:

1. Enable high precision mode.

2. Pick an item from one of the menus to slew to. Anything from the built in catalogues or the user object list is acceptable.

3. The scope slews to a nearby bright(ish) star & asks you to centre it.

4. Centre the bright star with the arrow keys. Then hit <Enter>.

5. The scope now offsets from the bright star to the object you originally selected.

I almost always used my LX90 with high precision mode enabled as that way the goto went into the middle of a high power eyepiece - with it disabled it sometimes missed even at low power.

Hi Dan,
hit the mode button until 'Telescope' is on the top line of the keypad display.
Hit 'Enter'.
Then use the down arrow until you get to item 9, which is 'high precision' in lower case. Hit 'Enter' and the "high precision" with change to all upper case to let you know it is on. Then hit mode to get to the screen you want.
Now when you do a GOTO the LX will go to a bright star near the object you want to observe and tell you to center it and hit enter. After you do that, the scope will slew and place the object very close to the center of the eyepiece FOV.
To turn it off, just to as above and when you hit enter after getting to the 9'th option it will change "HIGH PRECISION" back to all lower case to confirm it's turned off again.
Turning off the scope will also automatically turn it off.

Best regards,

Gary

Found out I was trying to use a star with HP...It clearly didn't like that, and when I used a DSO or galaxy or nebula, it worked just fine.

Thanks again.
